Healthcare Automation Celebrates 20 Years Supporting the
Home Care Industry
Cranston, RI (May 27, 2008) - Healthcare Automation, Inc. (HAI) is proud to mark its 20th year of business as a provider of premiere software to home care providers.
Healthcare Automation, headquartered in Warwick, RI, was founded in 1988 to address the home infusion therapy industry's need for automation. "Our first product, The I.V. Solution, was developed to meet the need for affordable, comprehensive software systems for both small and complex home infusion providers," recalls HAI CEO and founder, Ken Pereira. The I.V. Solution quickly became an industry leader, with clients throughout the U.S. and around the world.
Soon, it became clear to Pereira and others in management that the process of automation involved more than just software. "We had clients with the right tools, but they still struggled with reimbursement and regulations," he says. "We realized that they needed a partner, not just a software vendor." The Healthcare Automation Reimbursement Center was founded. Pereira brought in Jeanne Lugli, a former client and reimbursement expert who complemented the software offering. Lugli's division offered outsourced reimbursement and collections, as well as advising the software division on reimbursement best practices.
As the 1990s waned, it became increasingly clear that the home care industry would need a state-of-the-art application in a Windows environment. Healthcare Automation had two options: simply convert its existing software to a Windows interface, or completely revamp the software to reflect the increasingly demanding needs of the home infusion industry. "We chose to invest the time needed to create a next-generation solution," recalls Software General Manager Jennifer Keiser. With that decision, Healthcare Automation embarked on the development of HomecareNet. "We knew we had so many more options with new technology," says Keiser. "And we wanted to take full advantage of that, rather than simply converting our old data structures and screens."
In 2002, the beta version of HomecareNet was released. With HomecareNet, Healthcare Automation offered a comprehensive clinical, financial, and administrative JAVA application—and expanded its offering to integrate home nursing and HME functionality. In addition, HAI used the power of the SQL Server database to enable larger organizations to manage multiple business lines and sites and to embrace real-time data analysis with Business Intelligence Solutions. Since its release, HomecareNet's functionality has expanded to meet the ever-changing needs of the home care industry – including medication reconciliation, real-time adjudication, expanded electronic claims and care plans.
In its 20 years in business, Healthcare Automation has expanded its offering and client base, adding functionality for durable medical equipment, nursing and home-visit documentation to the software application; as well as short-term collection projects and reimbursement consulting to its reimbursement services. Healthcare Automation's Reimbursement Center now bills and collects with all industry-standard software applications.
"We're incredibly proud of the team we've built and the products we provide to our clients," says Pereira. "These first 20 years have given us insight into the industry that we are able to give back every day."
