Healthcare Automation Tackling Part D - And Winning

Warwick, RI (March 31, 2006) - Healthcare Automation, Inc. (HAI) is pleased to announce the readiness of its products and services to deal with the new regulations imposed on the home infusion industry by Medicare Part D.

"We're well-prepared to deal with the demands of this new program," says Ken Pereira, CEO. "With our software and experienced reimbursement staff, HAI has the expertise and technology to help our clients manage the Part D labyrinth."

Medicare Part D is a prescription drug program offered to all Medicare beneficiaries that went into effect Jan. 1, 2006. The program was designed as a retail drug benefit, but it applies to the home infusion industry as well. Part D has a huge impact on the home infusion industry, as it covers medications only and not supplies, services or any equipment required for the delivery of those medications, which are traditionally billed by home infusion providers via an additional per diem fee. Those elements of the home infusion service that are not covered will have to be covered by a secondary payer or by the beneficiary, complicating the billing process. Providers need to immediately adjudicate their prescriptions with Medicare and split their billing between payers.

That's where HomecareNet, HAI's state-of-the-art software, comes in. "We have the ability to adjudicate easily split charges between payers and claims in HomecareNet," says Jennifer Keiser, General Manager of software and HomecareNet's chief architect. "These capabilities are key to any organization providing pharmacy services to home infusion patients, whether covered by Medicare, Medicaids or private payers."

In addition to its split-billing capabilities, HomecareNet also offers additional features that are instrumental to facilitate Medicare Part D patients, including:

  • Tracking and revenue/cost recognition by payer, contract, therapy, specific items with drill-down profitability reporting and analysis that allows the provider to assess the viability of continued participation
  • Sophisticated billing for denial features
  • Ability to build payer specific formularies, with pop-up warnings about non-covered items
  • Ability to automatically bill pharmacy dispensing fees
  • Real-time adjudication using NCPDP 5.1, to seamlessly obtain real-time approval or rejection of dispensed drugs prior to delivery

"We've been in business since 1988," says Pereira. "We understand the industry well and we see how regulatory changes impact home infusion companies. Our team is on top of the regulations and rules so our customers can accept these patients with ease."

"HAI's Reimbursement Center staff is a necessary complement to our customers," says Jeanne Lugli, General Manager of reimbursement services. "With our Medicare expertise, we are always researching and documenting any change in the reimbursement landscape and Part D is no exception." Healthcare Automation's team of professionals has years of experience with Medicare and insurance billing and is able to skillfully support HAI clients' requirements to maximize reimbursement.

"We're very proud to provide our clients with added value during this time of industry upheaval," says Pereira. "We consider ourselves partners to our clients. Their success is our success."
